Repository for Innovative Strategies to Teach Professional Physical Therapy

About the Repository and review process

The Education Research Committee of ACAPT is creating a Repository for Innovative Strategies to Teach Professional Physical Therapy to provide examples of high-quality teaching and learning strategies that have been implemented as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Purpose: Physical Therapy programs have been required to rapidly respond to changing learning environments, and as a result novel teaching and learning strategies have been implemented by physical therapy educators. Some activities may include active learning, engagement through electronic mediums, and other innovative uses of technology that make learning accessible for students entering a dynamic healthcare environment. These will be useful for both novice and experienced faculty who seek creative ways to deliver content.

We are seeking submissions are sought that describe innovative strategies to:

  • Promote active learning and engagement through electronic mediums;
  • Use technology to make learning accessible to students;
  • Prepare practitioners for the changing health care environment including possible future changes in public health; and/or
  • Utilize current educational theory and evidence to promote excellence in physical therapy education.


Each submission will be assessed based on the following criteria:

Topic

  • Current and significant to the audience
  • Scope of focus is relevant and fits the purposes of the repository
  • Aligns with interests of SIGs or adds diversity to the pool of topics

Pedagogy/content

  • Teaching method is identified and addresses the stated objectives
  • Objectives follow Bloom’s taxonomy
  • Fits the stated purpose of the repository, including innovative strategies to:
    • Promotes active learning and engagement through electronic mediums;
    • Uses technology to make learning accessible to students;
    • Prepares practitioners for the changing health care environment including possible future changes in public health; and/or
    • Utilizes current educational theory and evidence to promote excellence in physical therapy education.
  • Assessment of learning is appropriate and includes outcomes, plan, and/or student feedback 

Readability

  • Well written with proper grammar and spelling
  • Clear description of the educational strategy
  • Follows the specified format for submissions

Evidence

  • References are relevant to the content of the submission
  • References are credible
  • Submission could evolve into educational research, including the scholarship of teaching

Include names, credentials, positions, name of educational institution, and e-mail address(es)
